It’s essential to know your skin type if you want healthy and flawless skin. Knowing your skin type allows you to select the right products and customize a skincare regimen that will work best for you. The main skin types to consider include: dry, oily, combination, normal, acne-prone, and sensitive. You might be wondering how in the world you’ll ever differentiate between all these skin types! But don’t worry. Every person’s skin is unique, but there are a few common skin types that may help you to identify where your skin fits in the most. The three main skin types are commonly referred to as Oily, Combination, and Dry. Here are two easy ways to determine your skin type at home.

SKIN TYPES
➡ Dry Skin
Dry skin can feel tight throughout the day and may experience noticeable flaking. Dry skin is largely due to genetics, environmental factors such as lifestyle & diet, hormonal changes, and climate. Dehydration is also a leading cause of dry skin, so drinking plenty of water and avoiding diuretics like alcohol and caffeine can make a significant difference in how your skin feels and looks.

Symptoms:
◾ Cracked skin (the cracks could be deep and bleed)
◾ Itching
◾ Peeling, flaking or scaling
◾ Redness
◾ Skin that feels rough or is gray and ashy
◾ Skin that feels tight, especially after you’ve been in the water (bathing, showering, or swimming)

How To Manage Dry Skin:
1. Apply moisturizer to dry skin. Apply a fragrance-free cream to the dry areas on your skin.
2. Don’t overdo it on the soap when you take a shower, and use warm water, not hot water.
3. Only use soap on the dirty parts of your body, like your armpits, your groin, under your breasts, and between your toes. Using soap all over can dry out and irritate your skin.
4. Dry skin needs these types of ingredients Geranium Oil, Glycerin, Shea Butter, Allantoin, and Vitamin E, which can help to gently moisturize and nourish the skin.

➡ Oily Skin:
Excess oil can oftentimes leave pores congested and clogged. The happy news however is that oily skin looks younger and more supple because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to wrinkle. Oily skin feels greasy to the touch, but on the plus side, it rarely feels tight or dry.

Symptoms:
◾ Produce excess oils
◾ Clogged Pores
◾ Skin feels greasy to the touch
◾ It rarely feels tight or dry

How To Manage Oily Skin:
1. Cleanse morning and night if you have oily skin. Apply a gentle facial cleanser with warm water to wash your face for 30 seconds to a minute.
2. Treat your problem areas with facial products containing benzoyl peroxide, alpha hydroxy acid, and retinoids.
3. You can also use products with glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
4. You can also use blotting paper to remove excess oil from your face. Press it against the oily area for about 15 seconds. This will absorb the oil and make your face appear less shiny.
5. Don’t avoid moisturizers. Even oily skin needs to be moisturized, just use an oil-free moisturizer.
6. Avoid using too many products at once to tackle oily skin. Drying out your skin too much can actually cause your skin to produce more oil to compensate.

➡ Combination Skin:
Essentially, combination skin means you have two or more textures. People with combination skin often experience dryness on the cheeks, making it important to find a moisturizer that is not too heavy but one substantial enough to retain moisture where needed most. Those with combination skin are not prone to breakouts on their cheeks and tend to have a well-moisturized t-zone. Gentle, daily exfoliation is also important to keep the t-zone and cheek areas balanced.

Symptoms:
◾ Skin looks oily across your T-zone
◾ Prone to dry patches on your cheeks.
◾ The pores on your nose may look larger than those on your cheeks, too.

How To Manage Combination Skin:
1. Use a fragrance-free gentle cleanser to wash your face, and avoid soaps with harsh chemicals.Use different cleansers at different times.
2. Eat more foods with essential fatty acids including salmon, flaxseed, and walnuts, or take a fish oil supplement this will help moisturize your skin without adding oil to it.
3. Keep your products cool. “Rather than storing products in your bathroom or dressing table, put them in the refrigerator. …
4. Choose your toner wisely.
5. Treat the oily T-zone and dry cheeks separately
6. Don’t forget SPF.
